On Wednesday, June 25, 2025, a meaningful gathering took place at 50/50 focused on the rights of women and children, with a spotlight on opportunities for empowerment. The meeting brought together community members, facilitators, and stakeholders committed to promoting equality and protection for women and girls.
The session highlighted the importance of empowerment programs that open doors for women and children to access opportunities, resources, and support. Facilitators underscored the critical role society plays in safeguarding women and girls—drawing inspiration from traditional family and community values of care, love, and security. These were identified as early forms of what we now refer to as safeguarding principles.
A powerful moment in the meeting came when participants were encouraged to reflect on the past and compare it to the current state of affairs. This reflection led to an engaging conversation on how the principles of safeguarding can be strengthened today—and the vital role of religious leaders in upholding and advocating for the God-given rights of women and children.
To deepen the discussion, participants were divided into smaller groups to identify additional concerns and recommendations. Each group presented their thoughts using flip charts, which were later shared with the hosts and their international partners as part of the collaborative effort to build a safer, more inclusive future.
The meeting was a clear reminder that while progress has been made, continued dialogue, action, and solidarity are needed to ensure the rights and safety of women and children are upheld by every sector of society.
